Keys to a Simple Life?

Smile often. Though life may sometimes drag you down, it’s important to bounce back up and flash a smile. Smiling is universal and is contagious, so spread the happiness!
Take lots of photos. You’ll be grateful you did, because oftentimes we underestimate the value of a moment until it’s just a memory. Pictures capture us at our most vulnerable and natural times, so keep the cameras rolling.
Cut your hair. Fresh starts are always good. Who wants split ends anyways?
Go on a run with your dog. Have you ever seen a dog that’s unhappy to go on a run with the number one person in their life?
Pick a song and replay it over and over again. Do this until you get absolutely sick of it. Attack the song until it’s lifeless. Continue this until it annoys you beyond comprehension. It’s important to surround ourselves with words that are important to us and stick out to us in one way or another. Repeat this process with a completely new song.
Buy a little cactus. Put it in the sun and water it and care for it. Little cactus plants are very cute. Cute things are nice and caring for something new is rewarding.
Drive around with your family. Roll the windows and talk. Drive around your own town and get lost on winding and hidden streets. Comment on things you notice. Getting to know your home is important. Especially with loyal people; like family
Make some lemonade. Add some sugar. Not too much. Laugh at the face you make when the taste is too sour. Sprinkle some more sugar. Know that even in sour things, there is always something sweet to be discovered.
Keep a journal. Write down all of your thoughts. Even the ones you don’t particularly like to think about all that much. Even the bad things. Disliking things and being annoyed are natural feelings and shouldn’t have to always be tucked away. Journals are very trustworthy companions and will keep any and all secrets- no matter what.
Put on some old sneakers. Lace them up. Even if they are too tight and pinch your toes, put them on. Go outside with a little kids. Little kids are great to talk to. They are untouched by the bad things in life, and have some pretty compelling opinions. Go outside after it’s just rained and go in the mud and look for worms. Guaranteed smiles and valuable life lessons included: free of charge.
Look at yourself in the mirror. Stare. Notice all of your freckles, bumps, and little imperfections. Admire yourself. Don’t think negatively about the skin you’re in. Then, go buy a large fry. Life’s too short to waste time and stress about the little things, and fries never disappoint.
Read a book. Other people’s thoughts and words are important to take into consideration. Someone took time out of their day to write that for your enjoyment. Books are stellar conversation starters, too, and you might even make a new friend. Win-win for everyone involved.
Reread a book. You’ll get more out of it the second time, and really appreciate it more. The feelings you got from reading it the first time will reurn, and the experience is very rewarding.
Worry. Not too much, though. Worry shows that you are aware of what is going on in your life, and that you aren’t letting yourself get walked on. Then, take a nap. Sleep doesn’t solve everything, but it sure does help. Sometimes, the solution will present itself or your problems won’t seem as bad upon waking up. Highly recommended.
Try something new. Paint. Draw. Write. Play guitar. Fail. Try again. Move on. Do what you like, and like what you do.
Wear mismatched socks. Flaunt them. Not everything in life is perfect and normal is boring.
Adopt a new laugh. Embrace it. Laugh as loud as you want (or can; either works). Turn heads. Not everyone’s opinions of you are valuable.
Get a pet fish. They are extremely entertaining, and are never going to judge you. Fish make due with what life has handed them (at this point, some water, gills, a little bowl, and now; you) and they get along just fine. Fish are good friends.
Go outside and grab some chalk. Doodle, draw, and write. Very unlikely that you will be sad when drawing with chalk. In the highly unlikely event that you are unhappy, crush up the chalk and put it in some water. Cover the new chalk-water mixture on your hands and smile. Your hands are now wet, sticky, and colorful. Pretty hard to take yourself seriously with hands like that, and smiling in inevitable under this circumstance.
Listen to the old songs on your phone/iPod/laptop/whateveryoulistentomusicon and listen to as many songs as possible without hitting shuffle. Even if you get annoyed with the songs, think about the person you were when you really enjoyed the songs, and what made you like them then.
Race a little kid, and let them win. Not only will they feel very accomplished, think back to when you were a kid and a big kid handed you the victory and how proud you were. Be a kind big kid.
Make a list. Lists are good for ideas and organizing. Proven very effective and reliable during dull times.
