“Yeah, that test?
Bombed it.”
Your words are light.
The tone tries for offhand.
But the fingers tap, tap, tap
as you wait for the page to load.
And your face still falls when you learn
that you spoke the truth.
I don’t know what you expected.
In a world where
Due Friday means Do Friday,
and forgetting to study
makes you “cool.”
People try so hard to get
success without effort;
they worry so much
about looking like they don’t care.
