She had tomorrow’s secret on her lips,
And yesterday’s whisper on her mind,
Golden hair, sparkling in the sun,
And feeble hands that were gentle and kind.

A simple smile, she always wore,
Though her eyes appeared tired and drained,
She always slouched low in her chair,
To him, it was obvious she was pained.

At home this girl was a wrecking ball,
Just a toy for her father to beat,
She was abused, broken,
Weary and scared,
Yet she had to suppress a cry of bleat.

For each day she put on a striking façade,
Her hardships, you could never tell,
Nobody knew--well, except for him,
That each day she endured this hell.

He’s falling in love with an untouchable girl,
For he’s only putting himself in harms way,
Flirting with danger, -- egging himself on,
Will only cause his feelings to fray.

Still, she had tomorrow’s secret on her lips
And yesterday’s whisper on her mind,
A convoluted brain in her head,

But how could he love a girl
Who might as well be dead?
