Love (No Love)
And when you say that love is beautiful
and it is the only thing you can write about
that is only because it has been kind to you.
I have seen.
People get consumed
by the hands exploring layers of cheap grins
and the newness of it all.
And so then, in that moment
when the lines of their bodies
seem to fit like a puzzle
love is beautiful and they can’t see past it.
But then it leaves - almost always does
And it leaves two people
trying desperately to forget each other
and retrace the lines of their past.
It all seems so precious to them
Maybe it is
but love is all too often confused.
Love is a word used too often
what i’ve heard called “love”
does not seem very beautiful.
It is hard and straining
it traps you in place
and you don’t think you can escape it
even when it’s gone south
because you are in love.
At least you once were - thought you were
And you can’t let it go
because love can’t just leave like that
can it?
