Summer
Summer is the worst.
Cicadas play their bagpipes late.
I wish they would hear when I call
“I’m trying to sleep!” What a cruel fate.
I’m tormented by waves
Of vampires swarming to my skin
For the tender taste of ruby dew drops
Running through my veins.
And why is the summer heat so intense?
I burn faster than lobster
Being sautéed in a pan.
Autumn can’t come fast enough.
I’ll shed my rosy skin and be
Whiter than a winter morning.
Then it’s only nine more months
Before the clouds clear
And the sun comes out
To ruin my day.
