speaking with actions

Some people will take the time to understand.
Time. Time that most do not care enough to lend her.
I sat on the bench from afar and carefully observed as she painted symbols on the board,
characterized by unique letters and perfectly placing each dot.
And you will walk by and see madness of tiny lines and curves
expressing the mind of one you do not understand.
It’s like a rainbow that reaches out into a gloomy sky after a horrifying storm,
creating a path to a possible pot of gold
but yet people choose to open up there umbrellas as if
protecting themselves from the rain that had already fallen.
Next you’ll see her sit at the coach’s desk awaiting his arrival each day.
Irritated, he tells her again to sit on the ground.
And I’ll notice that she joyfully jumps to the floor,
then sits silently once the harsh faces surrounding her set in.
Just like the miniature dog that bows its head down
at the sight of a dog that stacks twice the size and casts a shadow down over it.
Later you’ll see her sitting at the bottom of the stairs. Alone,
next to a small box of sticks and leaves
that you’d think she grabbed from her front yard on the way out.
But I’ll notice the creativity and countless hours
that turned those individually inspected and specially chosen sticks into a model treehouse.
If you ask her, she’d talk about it as it was her own fort
that she can climb into and escape the outside world.
She purposely sets it to the right as she leans against the wall to her left
so that everyone is forced to comment to themselves as they pass.
Even after my observations I still do not fully understand,
but next time you see the strange symbols written across the board,
hold the eraser.
