The Cold War

No commands but “wait” were ordered.
No thoughts were turned to strategic plans.
Not one death impacted the army.
Yet we called it a war.

Cold shoulders were thrown.
Confrontation was lacked.
Conflicting nations hiding from war,
like little boys in a serious game of hide and seek.
A cold war, it was.

Both countries stood still,
As though they were trapped on tracks with a train barreling towards them,
Frozen in fear.
Waiting for the other to take the first step.
Waiting for the other to simmer down,
When neither had reached a boil.

Too afraid to wage a war.
Too scared to retreat.
Both nations waiting to be forgotten
like the horrendous winter that is soon forgotten,
when summer rolls around.
