We lived the Jewish man’s dream; riches and religion intertwined.
Abruptly, we were swept off of our feet.
The wheels began to grind.
We were on our way.
I was but a grain on a beach of sand.
Like a horse and buggy in the twenty-first century, there it stood.
Arbeit macht frei.
Pools of blood were everywhere in sight.
Plans clear as a day’s sun, they proposed our genocide.
Never shall I forget those flames that consumed my faith forever.
Where was he?
Yitgadal veyitkadach shm’e raba.
I did not deny G-d’s existence. But I denied his absolute justice.
Where is he? Here he is- He is hanging here on this gallows.
Maybe the greatest question of all;
While we died and suffered,
Where was he?
Why didn’t he step in?
He is G-d. Where was G-d?
