man and woman
wed in holy matrimony
a marriage bed of flowers, unity.
a fertile place to raise children
small, tender offspring, soft as a
new shoot in spring.

separated by a door
cold, reflective, metallic. sterile. closed.
man can enter. woman cannot. human cannot.
cries for companionship echo, unanswered,
slowly dwindling to soft sounds of snowfall.
tender shoots wilt.
flowers fade to muddy brown and
winter smothers their fragrance.
