The Farm
The Farm,
A term unknown by many.
Trees, fields, and crops,
Would be a simple way to describe it.
Much more is hidden behind those fences and gates.
The breathtaking sunsets,
Or the awe-inspiring dawns.
The stars are beautiful.
It is almost impossible to look away.
Listen as the trees sway.
Watch as deer run across the field,
Graceful but quick.
Listen to the rumble of the creek,
Absorb the rays from the sun.
Many cannot understand my desire for the place.
The indescribable joy of smelling the air.
My heart lives there,
Beating slowly as time goes by.
The damp leaves and the soft grass are nature's blanket.
They beg you to stay awhile,
To enjoy.
Every year I watch as the crops grow.
Beans, corn, sunflowers,
Only some of what is grown.
I observe as the cattle grow,
Slowly fattening and grazing peacefully.
Soon my brother will understand the beauty,
Until then I must enjoy it all myself.
I sit through school days,
Longing to be fishing with my father.
The one-and-only feeling,
From the tug on your line.
I struggle to leave,
The echoes of the wind begging me to stay,
However, life is more than just fun.
I always am thinking of the farm.
The thought is like the seed of corn,
Slowly growing until it bursts out.
Then, I cannot help but return to the farm.
