Because I Could
Because I Could
I took two books of Shakespeare,
One book of Dickinson,
And three books of poems.
Because I Could
I fell in love with books,
Poems, songs, and written words
And out of love with people.
Because I Could
I stole balloons from 8th grade prom
Took them home with me
And said "My date brought them to me."
Because I Could
I made a blog of poetry,
I spilled my heart on the pages,
For anyone to see.
Because I Could
I tore ribbons
Off of condemned trees
And saved a couple acres.
Because I Could
I taught myself poetry,
Vocabulary, diction, and syntax,
So that no one could call me stupid
Because I Could
I took lessons from
King, Poe, Plath, Shakespeare, Dickinson,
And Rowling, faithfully.
Because I can
I break my hand
Scrawling on the pages
Trying to write my stories.
