The Shot Clock
The shot clock is ticking down making me nervous. My hands are clammy while I bounce the basketball. The crowd is rising not knowing what will await them in these next seconds. My teammates are exhausted.I look at my defenders dark green eyes. He is extremely tense. The clock is ticking. 7 seconds left. Its win or go home. Our team is down a point. My light blue uniform sticks to my body. My legs cramp and my head aches. 5.4 seconds left. I dribble and take two steps back. I'm right behind the 3-point line. The arena that stands around me becomes extremely quiet. 3 seconds left. I bring the ball up to my waist. I look for open teammates. NONE. 2 seconds left. I look at my defender and burst up in the air. I feel as if I've been up there forever. The basket seems so far away. I bring the ball up to my shoulders and release. The ball spins through the air making its way home. I land on the floor while still watching my shot. The bright orange ball dives right through the net. Swoosh!
