Memories

Pain is falling onto the pavement,

resulting in a stubbed toe.

Pain is finding out someone you loved

has passed on,

like a butterfly in the wind.

Pain is having your heart broken into pieces

by the one you love, like a vase,

crashing onto the kitchen floor.

Pain is being the loner in class,

the one always left behind.

Pain is to be so depressed

you cannot drag yourself out of bed each morning-

Pain is being ignored in a conversation

when it seems like you are there-

when truly you are not.

Pain is watching someone you love die a tragic death,

having to say goodbye to them-

holding nothing but memories of them.

Pain is falling off a skateboard

skating down the street at 20 mph-

Pain is saying no to a young child

who wants a gorgeous-looking lollipop

like a puppy begging for a bone-

but receiving none.

Pain is finding out the pet you’ve had since childhood died

realizing you will never be able to replace them.

Pain is waking up to bright lights staring you in the face

with an obnoxious alarm beep-beep-beeping that it’s 6:30-

calling you to rise but you wish to sleep in-

Pain is tripping down the stairs,

bumping your head hard on the ground floor to retain amnesia,

never to recall who your family is

or to remember any wonderful memories

created in past years.

Pain is to demanded to be felt.
