The Lunchroom
I sat, staring, silent
Everyone’s chatter filled the lunchroom,
Blending together in a muffled groan
Everything felt so bland,
The air around me felt rigid and cold
It smelled like greasy old food
I was drowning in boredom
He won’t even look at me,
We haven’t spoke all day
Suddenly music started playing,
Pushing out the mono toned background
With a fast moving beat and sweet rhythm
Colors came rushing in the room
Professional dancers came twirling, jumping
And dancing to the rhythm
He stood up from his seat,
He looked at me with a smirk across his face
And held out his hand
I took it
He pulled me out of my seat
And we were spinning together around the room
Weaving in and out of the dancers
My ears were ringing with laughter
My heart was racing with excitement
We settled back down in our seats
My cheeks were sore from the
Constant grin stretched across my face
We haven’t spoken all day
He won’t stop looking at me
Everything felt so clear
We sat, staring, silent
