This little round ball is worn and torn.
It may look like it’s worth nothing at all.
But to this little young boy with a blue baseball cap,
It is not just a ball,
Nor a simple game,
But a memory of his Dad.

One of the hardest things for someone to ever have to deal with is the feeling of losing someone you love. The empty hole in your heart that no one can ever replace. No one ever said death and loss would be easy; it isn’t that’s for sure. Especially if it was your dad, husband, uncle, brother, son, brother-in-law, son-in-law, or even a good friend. A year ago on March 25, 2013, a man who was considered every one of these positions died and entered the gates of heaven.

I wrote this poem in memory of my uncle Greg who I would consider being loving, kind, caring, faithful, funny, and one of the most intelligent person I have ever met. Although he died when he was quite young I think he achieved more in his lifetime than anyone else could in 100 years. He was a wonderful husband and loved his wife unconditionally. A father to a 15 year old son, 13 year old son, and a 8 year old daughter who suffers from apraxia, still managed to raise them up to be the best that they can be. His kids loved him so very much and he loved them just the same. They are probably some of the sweetest, and smartest kids you will ever meet. He was a man of great faith and put God as his number one priority. He attended Bible studies once a week and read his Bible daily. There is no doubt in my mind that he for sure met God on March 28 and entered heaven for the first time.

In this poem it talks about how a boy in a blue hat is picking up a baseball, which is lying on a field. It shows how this boy not only thinks about the game when he picks up the ball but it holds a special memory. The boy is one of my uncle’s sons whom he was coaching just shortly before he died. His two boys love playing baseball and always will, not just because its fun but mostly because it’s the only thing they can do to try and fill that empty space in their heart.
