Final Tournament
My cousin took a deep breath and walked onto the court,
Clarkston had the first serve-
Hesitating while gripping the volleyball with her sweaty fingertips,
She launches it high into the air like a jet plane.
The ball strives to reach the other side of the net.
The opposing team stood in the correct positions preparing to hit it.
Lunging for the ball, the young girls yell MINE!
The audience on the bleachers had their jaws dropped.
It hit the net and the point was given to the home team-
Clarkston- While many cheered,
My cousin’s face turned glum and she swallowed hard.
She could not serve a second time.
With luck she struck again, but unfortunate enough
To land directly into the net; opposing team receives point.
The game continued while the ball had traveled
Back and forth as if it were a chess game until-
Tie game. The final point caused aggressive play
The spike ran the buzzer crazy and the parents cheered-
Blue and gold jerseys huddled in a last hurrah.
