Old Flame

Trapped.
Hopelessly lost somewhere between my past
And my present place,
Hard.
Convincing voices come from all directions
But none know the truth.
They are blind to the real battle.
Who to tell,
Who to tell?
No one.

A flickering flame.
One I thought smothered long ago;
Growing.
Yet still hidden from my “comrades.”
Outsiders
But how can you shield them from seeing the
Light that illuminates the pitch black
Room they’ve been exiled to?

Until an inferno is grown
Capable of engulfing everything
When it sees fit.
I wouldn’t stop it.
Rather welcome.
Excitedly.
But from the ashes is born
A revival of things past
And long since forbidden.
T’was always there, just hidden.

The author's comments:
This was my first real attempt at any type of poetry. I was feeling conflicted about a relationship I was in so I thought I'd try a new way of expressing what I was feeling. I also play guitar so I thought if I started experimenting with poetry I could turn them into song lyrics too.
