The Rain
Rain
I sit
I wait
As falling water drowns the pavement.
People run for cover,
Covering their heads from the brooding storm above.
I watch as bright red rain boots splash the puddles,
Spraying droplets all over the defenseless grass
Umbrellas open,
Causing a twirling mirage of black, gray, and blue.
Blanketing clouds cover the sky,
Putting the world to sleep.
A soft pitter-patter echoing through every house,
Cars swimming through rivers of water,
Bermudez 2
Flooding every curb.
The whistling wind moving through peoples’ hair,
Pushing them to shelter
Finally, a spark of light,
Spreading across the sky like a raging fire
It grows, till the dank darkness is drowned in light.
Umbrellas are brought down,
Put away into the confinements of jackets and backpacks.
I reach for my boots,
Dry and fresh as they are,
Only to be soon doused in fallen tears.
Life goes on, sun comes out,
Lifeless bodies of water lay still on the pavement,
Untouched,
Undisturbed,
For now
