The Gate of Dooming

The gate of dooming,
over her head it’s looming.
She steps up,
she steps up each step,
her stride grows confident
with each step she takes
and by the time she reaches that gate,
she barrels through,
no longer looking where she’s going,
she can no longer tell the difference
between up and down,
so as she falls
she feels that she soars.
Past that gate was a cliff,
and she pitched herself off with such haste,
such lust!
We try and we try
to bring her back up.
Our outreaching hands weren’t enough,
so we threw down ropes.
Ropes weren’t enough,
so we sent a harness too.
But she looks right past our worries,
she thinks we’re the fools!
Now we’ve gone,
and we’ve moved all hell and earth,
and we’ve brought her an elevator!
But she won’t get in!
We plead and we plead,
we’ve tried every method,
but she won’t return,
even now.
Even now as she has hit the bottom of the cliff,
she digs and claws
through the rubble and stones,
she digs herself deeper!
The deeper she gets,
the more she screams,
screams for attention.
The deeper she gets,
the more we cry,
cry for a life cast away.
The deeper she gets,
the more we realize,
realize she understands nothing,
in thinking it is us
who is missing the glory.

She will never return to us,
will she?
