Hike To Ice Lakes
We had driven to the end of the rocky dirt road,
All the way from Durango to Silverton,
Up and down the traitorous mountain sides,
And pulled up at 9 a.m.,
The grasses still covered in morning dew.
We unloaded the gear,
Strapped the heavy packs to our backs and waist’s,
And I took a large sip of water.
With everything in place,
We began to walk up and up the trail.
Beautiful flowers blossoming on the sides
Smelling sweet and fresh.
I could hear the waterfall
Crashing down on the rocks below.
The larks were chirping,
And I heard the frogs croaking.
The trees were swaying
With the slight wind.
Nick and I went for hour’s uphill,
And when we reached the top,
I was as tired as a cheetahs prey,
After a wild game of tag.
But it was well worth it,
The landscape was so beautiful.
