“Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.”

Classroom walls would breathe
the musky scent of
dusty pages at my face,
absorbed through my skin
as knowledge.

Hospital tiles would whisper
to me, of the ghosts that
make them an ivory-blue cold,
absorbed through my skin
as goosebumps.

The bookshelf in my room
would write itself on its walls:
a black cage of ink and books,
delving into wood,
absorbed through my skin
as poison.

Jade’s white picket fence
would kiss my fingers, absorbed
through my skin
as splinters.

"If you build your house far enough away from Trouble, then Trouble will never find you."

"Have you ever looked fear in the face and said, 'I just don't care.'?"

This is great! I think the idea is really unique, and the way you wrote it was so elegant yet simple. Really great! :)
