The Quiet Corral
As I stand here in the muddy corral, I lean against the shed, where all the calves have been born, and when it was cold we put all the cows in the barn, over there to the south. This will also be the location of the cycling cows and heifers for breeding season, so next year they will produce again. As I think about these things, all is silent, there is not wind, the ground is muddy, and it is a nice cool night. However the only noise is a cat, silently, slowly, sneakily walking on the mud, trying its best not to get mud on its paws. This is almost the silence before the war, because while I'm not doing anything now, in only a few weeks, I will be busy working cattle, loud, boisterous, get on your nerves cattle, and the joys that come with it.
