Jet Planes

Gently, I close the wooden door and peek over my right shoulder,

Your soft smile greets me and of my nerves it rids me

Yet still your loosen brass door handle comes crashing to the floor,

I hear the distant pop of the wooden interruption, but I ignore it,

For my mind focuses on more important things, like

The owl on your wool sweater,

And things only get better,
As my feet creek across the floor,
Closer to yours,
And I reach out my hand,
You stand and grip it tight,
Everything’s alright,
But as our lips move closer our noses pick up something we forgot about.
Together, we work to un-hinge the door,
And when we finally do our nostrils cringe.
Like rats in a maze,
The hallways we duck in and out of to find the cheese,
The burnt pizza I mean.
But I think that sums us up pretty well,
Lazy and forgetful,
But Hell,
I know I won’t forget you,
Because every time I have to leave,
I heave myself at you,
Cuz I don’t want to go.
John Denver sings
“Kiss me and smile for me”
But I don’t want to smile for you,
But with you.
As I sink into my forest green cavalier,
I look back at your face in the window,
Like a mirror I see myself,
And I drive real slowly to my home,
But when I’m with you,
I am home.
