You are not
Who I thought you to be
I assumed you were
Something from outside this earth
Something everlasting
And I dreamed that when the world were to fall
You’d be the last standing through it all
But I was wrong,
The dark man came for you
Singing his dark song

Once in time we were two
But only I remain, without you
Since then,
I guess I have been doing alright
Once in a while though
You still sneak into my mind

I think of how easy it was
With you here
And how I’m so sure
I’d be a better person
if you were still near
These days seem to mesh together
And when life begins to hurt
I remember you’re gone for a reason
And to be alive, I must still hold some worth

At least that is what I need to believe
That I’m on this earth for a purpose
And you’ve left,
Not because you didn’t want to be here
But because you didn’t need to
I won’t lie and say it wasn’t hard
Teaching myself the ways of the world
And seeing all those I love
Fail and fall to the floor
I won’t lie and say you were a great person
You could be harsh
But I think I needed that
To teach me that this world is worse.
