I Am From Poem
I am from a simple lunch in a kampong house
From Nasi goreng and Mie tek tek that I love to eat
I am from a plain, and yet warm house and the smell of spicy Rendang that my grandmother always cooks
I am from aloe vera and banana trees that are in my grandma’s backyard
I’m from Soebandi and Soepardjo
I’m from Sundanese and Muslim descendants
I’m from the soil and the blood
From the nina bobo song that my grandmother always sang
I’m from the city of flowers and the island of Indonesia
From salty empal and ayam pop
From a family of healers and travelers
From the place where I come from,
To the grief, where the last journey of my life.
To the grave which will be my final stop
