A Secret Named Beauty

True beauty is a lie
It's not what's on the outside
But what's inside
Beauty is just a secret
Hidden within the lies
We like what we see
But not how we feel
We see things we want to achieve
But what we see can't be achieved
What we see isn't real
The photos aren't real
They've been touched
By things we don't see
That's why beauty is a secret
Because true beauty
The beauty that we see
Is only just a lie

The author's comments:
I have two cousins who unfortunately have been affected by eating disorders.It upsets me how much photos are retouched and edited and the effects it has on society. Photoshop has altered our perception of "true beauty" and created an "ideal body image" that's not possible to achieve.
