I don't want to repeat my innocence.
I want the pleasure of losing it again.
-F. Scott Fitzgerald
This Side of Paradise

Auburn sparks singe the water,
The suns last wish to die free.
And the daylight drowsily slips,
Under the somber atlantic seas
Into the paling horizon,
A lazy ship is guided by poseidon.
Miles of frosted silk,
trimmed with jewels fair as milk.
Wealthy wives sip garnet wines,
their spouses dine on steaks.
Come dessert and soon each stomach brims with rich rum cakes.
Trance begins to lull their eyes,
Corridors whisper soft goodbyes.
Tucked away, thoughts expand.
Minds that crave their feet on mainland.
When silence stills the night,
She shivers in icy fright.
A crack of arctic lightning tremors the peace,
A ripple,wrinkle, unforeseen crease.
Like beads that scatter, frantic chatter spreads throughout the halls.
The decks begin to clutter,
the lights begin to flutter,
And to safety boats we crawl.
Starting to slant we inch towards vague fates.
The lucky climb atop floating crates.
My grasp slipping from cold,wet,steel
i hold my breath and try not to feel.
My body shifts and slides away,
"Unsinkable" they say.
