Lost and afraid,
With no place to go.
Sits on the sidewalk, the only place she could know.

Thirsty and famished.
But won't beg for money.
Grateful for what's given,
And just happy it’s sunny.

Her hat was filthy,
from the inside out; worn
All ragged and dirty,
her clothing was torn.

Smiling on the outside.
Broken on the in.
Hiding a past of one that
has sinned.

But behind this past sits
a beautiful girl.
One who couldn't hurt a soul
for the world.
Alone and innocent;
hesitant to speak
She hides in her posture,
To shield that she's weak.

With no family
far or near,
She holds tightly to her
what is dear.
Though not much,
she remains content.
She is not broken,
But only bent.

Still loving the life
with everything that she has.
Through all her hard times,
The good, and the bad.

And though without siblings,
Mother, or dad.
This beautiful girl,
can find nothing to add.

I was traveling in New York with my family for vacation. One day when we were in the city my family and I came across a girl who was sitting alone on the sidewalk. She looked to be in her late twenty's and sat in a ball, scrunched up looking at her feet. We walked by and my father looked down at her as did the rest of the family. He reached out to give her a few loose dollars that he had in his pocket. She looked up as if she had seen an angel. She didn't even bother to hold a sign begging for money or asking for anything like the other innocent homeless men and women did. She was content on the corner and didn't beg. Even though she was homeless and had no one staying with her she wasn't bothering or begging on the corner. My father ended up going back to the corner and giving her enough money to stay in a motel that night. We didn't ask for a name or reason as to why she didn't have a home. We gave what we had to her and reminded her that God loves her. Wishing we had gotten her name to stay in contact with her if she ever needed anything sadly we didn't, but to this day she remains our New York Angel.
