did you think I’d be here forever?

you made a mistake
the second you believed
I would stick around
waiting for you or
for something,
some miracle

as if I was made of time
an unlimited fountain
of care, love, patience
you’ll find I’m just a well,
darling,
and I have run dry

I hope you’ll believe me
when I say I wanted
to stay.
but I don’t know why
you let me walk
away

there’s no such thing as forever
