Angel
You’re an angel
--but you have no voice
You’re screaming inside
But you can’t be heard
Because they refuse to listen
You’re an angel
--but you do not pray
Your faith shattered by broken promises
You swiftly turned your back on false hope
Turning down a path of no return
You’re an angel
--but you are not pure
That night you gave into passion at sixteen
Thinking it would thaw your icy black heart
Now you struggle keeping your newborn fed an clothed
You’re an angel
--but you have no halo
Six-by-eight is the only home you’ve known
There is blood on your hands…
That no amount of cleaning will ever erase
You want to be an angel
You want to soar—to follow your dreams into the stars
But the stars were too bright…
You were blinded.
You were burned.
We’re all angels…
But with broken wings.
