When your last name is towards the end
You start to recognize certain patterns
Alphabetical order is your nightmare
Everyone else gets to go before you
But, of course, for the bad stuff

“Reverse Alphabetical!”

Back of the pack always sticks together
After all, we are always waiting for a while.
You start to recognize your fellow W’s, X’s Y’s and Z’s
It’s always the same people.
Back of the room
In every class
Last one for presentations
Last one in the line
Last one for pretty much everything.

However, being a W can be pretty awesome
You know where to go if someone says

“Line up in alphabetical order!”
At least we know our place
After all, it’s always the same.
W is a pretty fun letter to write, I guess
It is kind of swirly
Lots of great people were W’s

Washington

Winston

Wall-e

Wilson
And, the end of the alphabet is cooler (sorry Abby Adams)
Isn’t there a saying?

“Save the best for last”
I couldn’t agree more.

So W’s, stick together
Don’t lose hope
You may be last forever,
But don’t let it bring you down
You learn patience after a while

(I guess it hasn’t been a while for me)
But it will be ok
Think of the things you can accomplish with all the time you have to wait
You can make new friends
Write a song
Publish a book
Learn to play an instrument
Become fluent in a foreign language
Sew your clothes for the next year
Assemble a computer
Run a marathon
I’ve done it all, just while waiting my turn.

And maybe, from the fellow W teachers,
Once in a while,
You will hear the words

“Reverse alphabetical”
And maybe,
Just maybe,
It will be for something good.
