A Rose has Thorns
A pearl,
It is the queen and epitome
Of all beauty and grace
With petals of hypnotizing velvet
Stem proud and strong
The rose
It's name warm on a lover's lips
Caressing my ear
No wonder that I yearn to grasp it
Yet I cry out
As a thorn pricks my skin
An action unexpected
I think,
As a drop of blood mars the lady's thorns,
But though I ache in pain,
I ache in want more,
Want for that beauty,
To hold it in my hands
To have it at my command
But alas,
It's not to be
For its thorns prick me
But I suppose
That all beauty seen
May not necessarily beautiful.
