In His Final Battle
He waits on the ground stiff and unrest
Hands on the trigger holding his vest
One shot and one chance to finally defeat
Grasping the gun and readied his feet
The commander yells, “Now,” and away they flee
Into the battle, with the flesh of the enemy
He shoots and quickly ducks down
Hoping to be invisible by making no sound
He watches his friends go one by one
Falling down dead and dropping their guns
He shuts his ear from the fire bursting shells
He knows his one true wish is for them to go to hell
Them, the ones who started this brand new crusade
Then he remembers home, a place he wishes he had stayed
But he knows he doesn’t stand a chance
The missiles and bombs do nothing but advance
He looks around and all that he sees
Scattered bodies and burnt down trees
The soldiers who died were just like him
The only difference is they were torn from limb to limb
He can’t imagine how heartbroken their families will be
Their son, brother or father, they will never again see
Just like the other soldiers, death awaits him
A bullet like any other shoved into his skin
Blood oozing out unable to shed a tear
But then again, heaven and peace was so, so near
