Achieving Dreams

I sit in class
Sometimes bored out of my mind
I try to be polite, and kind
I know I need this
So I pay attention
I try to get good grades
And stay out of detention
I try to abstain
From anything that causes me pain
I use my friends and family
As a bolster
While keeping a tenacious grip on my
Life
And maybe one day, finding the perfect
Wife
But for now, I must listen and write
And try with all my might
To do well in school
Surrounded by students who are oblivious to what they do
And some who receive numerous accolades for what they do
I go home and finish my work
I eat, watch T.V., then I do my other work
Do what I need, and then I go to sleep
I wake up and hear a harangue from my parents because I forgot to put my stuff away
“Pick that up and put it away”
Then I get ready to start the day
Just like the past
Today’s the same
As every other day
I get to class
Each with an abrasive student
I do my work and take notes
Then I meet with my friends and we discuss
I sometimes hamper my thoughts
To avoid a fight
Then I go home and sleep another night
I know the rest of my high school year is ephemeral
So I push through it until summer
Then next year I’ll do the same thing
Having faith that one day it will pay off
That in the end it will all be worth it
And that maybe one day I could achieve my dream
A dream so simple, but so hard to achieve
A dream that will all be worth it
My dream to be,
Happy
And
Successful
