Favorite Quote:
"The head and the heart are contrary historians."

Said the boy to the closet
“Why don’t you go undercover?”
I am out of linen sheets to tuck myself in
keep them folded behind closed doors
so that you would not cut holes in them
and make yourself a ghost to me

Said the boy to the closet
“Tell me, what are you doing to help yourself?”
Open up the doors and let the draft in
let it slam them back and rip them from their hinges
and never have to be closed again

Said the boy to the closet
“Do not turn away your allies.
I am only trying to help.”
And I thought it funny
the way we define
assisted suicide

This poem is about a friend of mine who has recently said some incredibly insensitive things about the LGBT+ community, and the peer pressure within queer communities to come out. For the allies out there, please make sure you are helpful and educated about these issues, and know when you've overstepped a line. To members of the LGBT+ community, coming out is a very personal thing, and should be done only when you are comfortable with it. Your safety always comes first.
