Caterpillar
I am a caterpillar,
Slowly, surely growing.
I am simple, I am not beautiful. I cannot fly.
I watch people chase them,
catch them,
love them,
want to be them,
I want to be them.
I inch along the garden with wandering eyes.
I am vulnerable, not noticed, not wanted, but unable to stay that way for long;
The world around me forces me to build walls, make a cocoon.
Behind those walls I am safe for now, becoming more and more confident, more and more Beautiful.
I am no longer anxious about the world, I am ready for it.
I begin to break down my walls brick by brick,
And suddenly, all at once, I am flying, happy as can be,
I am beautiful, free, independent.
I am confident.
I fly with ease, greeting others instead of running away.
People chase me,
watch me,
want to catch me,
love me,
wish to be me,
Because now, I am a butterfly.
