Coffee Break
I wake up before the sky does
The birds are still asleep
I stumble as I wake up with bloodshot eyes and cold feet
I brush my teeth and comb my hair,
And just to make my task less fair
A soggy bowl of cereal is shoved down my throat
“At least it’s nutritious,” my parents gloat
On to the bus stop, I sit alone and stare
At the melancholy sky: so bleak and austere
First period English, prepositions, oh my!
Second period gym, I’m literally running out of my mind
The day drags on like my feet on the carpet
I’m on autopilot: being controlled like a puppet
At least when it’s all over I can put down my books and sleep
What keeps me up and running is my caffeine
