The Girl
In the darkness of the night,
a girl will drag a razor along her pale wrist.
This is her attempt to feel something,
anything.
In the light of dawn,
the girl will skip breakfast even though her stomach longs for food.
This is her attempt to become pretty,
beautiful.
In the heat of the afternoon,
the girl will rush to the bathroom to purge up the lunch she was forced to eat.
This is her attempt to fix her mistake, it’s her
punishment.
In the darkness of the night,
a girl will take too many pills while she cries alone in the bathroom.
This is her final attempt to get rid of the pain,
suicide.
In the light of the dawn,
the girl lies lifeless on the cold linoleum floor.
This is her attempt that succeeded, she’s in a better place now,
heaven.
In the heat of the afternoon,
the girl looks down from above and watches her family cry, cursing the Lord.
This is her realizing she was truly loved.
In the darkness of the night,
a girl hears her mother’s prayers, wondering why her little girl decided to take her life.
This is her realizing she will be missed.
In the light of the dawn,
the girl watches as the principal tells her peers the terrible news, many break down in tears.
This is her realizing she affected so many people.
In the heat of the afternoon,
the girl walks to God with her head held high and asks for a second chance.
This is her realizing she wants to be alive.
In the darkness of the night,
a girl decides to flush pills instead of overdosing.
This is her attempt to get better,
recover.
In the light of the dawn,
the girl hugs her mother tight and says I love you.
This is her attempt to find happiness,
hope.
In the heat of the afternoon,
the girl eats lunch with no regrets and smiles a little wider.
This is her attempt to become healthy,
strong.
In the darkness of the night,
a girl throws out her razors and thanks God for the second chance.
This is her realizing she is greater than the struggle,
she’s a warrior
