What the people told Winter and how he replied
The flower opens,
The snowflake melts.
Spring’s earthy perfume
Fills the warm air.
Snow once held beauty
To all who saw
You all now ignore
All of Spring’s flaws.
Salt washes from roads
Into storm drains
All signs of Winter
Fade from our brains.
You try to forget
What once you loved
Losing memories
Of former fun.
Spring sprinkles sunlight
Where once were clouds.
Kids splash playfully
In Spring’s puddles.
Angels and round men
Dressed in fresh snow
Guarded the children
Who braved the cold.
No more ten below
Weathermen say,
And that’s when you know
Spring’s here today.
You all love the cold
It’s your excuse
To buy steaming drinks
And cozy shoes.
Spring knows we love her
We’re sure she sees
How we laugh and dance
In her light breeze
You only hate me
In my last days
We tire of Old
Then New appears
Spring calls out, “I’m Here,
Finally here.
You suffered long months
Without my cheer.”
It is easy to forget
What is already gone.
These people touch our lives, yet
We won’t remember them.
So go dance in your spring days
Forget what we once had.
Next December you’ll want snow,
What if I’m not there then?
