Anxiously Waiting

Anxiously waiting
at the top of the slope,
my hands tremble as I
nervously adjust the mirrored lenses
strapped to my skull.
As my planned run
replays in my mind,
I stomp my heavy skis on the ground
to unfreeze my frigid feet.
The thoughts that rush
through my head
overpower all other sounds.
When the announcer shouts the number
that matches the one on my chest,
nothing else in the world matters.
