Sacked
There is an unflagging ache in my bones
my body has been tossed, turned, and twisted.
Its dark and the cold tackles my body.
I attempt to remove myself from the comforts of paralysis
but, maybe I should stay down for a while.
The sound of an obnoxious buzzer jolts me to life
provoking me to protect my record during the last minutes of the struggle.
Smells of fatty foods sizzle up and into my nose.
Bright lights bleed into my eyes without warning.
Reluctantly I begin to move toward the grassy ground
disembarking from security, my mind racing through different plays
I go for broke and find myself caught in a sea of coverage
I fumble
Then I recover.
I get out of bed and search for the crumpled sock lost in the challenge.
There wedged at the bottom of my bed the sock sits waiting.
