To Coda
I told you we’d pick
it up where we left off
after my summer
at band camp.
Aaron played percussion
and he loved to beat
all night long
no matter how tired I was.
Claudia sang and always
commented on how flat
my chest was
though applauded my
vocalization.
Lucas tuned m chords
just right
but our conversation was always
off-key.
Maya was breathy;
fortunately the acoustics
in the supply closet
were dissonant.
But school is starting
and we will reprise
and crescendo.
