your dad
You look at me through him
and I wonder how long it’ll take
when time finally says “f*** it”
and your heart falls out of your chest
and you stumble across
freezing, sparkling pavement
in the middle of January
in a city you don’t think you
know anymore...
did you ever?
I sit on the floor
and see you on the ceiling
in pock-marked paint,
spots where the plaster
is starting to rot,
I see your face in the dark.
and I wonder about you
How similar are we?
How much do I know of
you,
really?
How much of you
is in him?
could I reach out
and touch it?
Or would you
burn me
with a used-up cigarette?
