Who the hell is love anyway?
You ever met him?
How about seen him?
You might have, but he is hard to pin down
And it’s impossible to set up a meeting with him

He is nowhere in particular
But he is everywhere at once
His presence told to us by
The odd heartbeat in our chest
And the misconstrued feelings waging war in our minds

As our thoughts wander, looking for love
like a weary traveler wants a place to rest
we know our thoughts will never find refuge
Because love is something that we are not meant to find
It is meant to find us
It is meant to show up and drag our sorry a**es out of whatever
Confabulated tribulation we have concocted for ourselves in the nature of
Being adventurous

That's what he is
He is adventurous
Everyday, he drags us down more arteries and veins
That lead us to our heart
He hauls us to every dark corner of our mind and soul
And even though you are terrified, he
Grabs your hands and says in his soft reassuring voice that
It isn't safe but, that we should continue if we want to be discovered
We have to know ourselves, before we may know him

And though our footsteps are shaky and unsure
they are moving us forward
we are slowly learning how to walk on our own two feet with this stranger leading us to
Places and feelings that we didn't know our body and minds withheld from us

He is so smooth, that the lightning flowing through the words on his tongue
Don’t slow up long enough to hear the thunder from your heart applaud their exuberant performance
He's bit unorthodox in that he steals hearts away from unsuspecting victims
and plunges his hands deep into the soft tissues of your brain to make sure that he is all you think about

He is strong enough to break down any walls you have built up
Over the assaulting years of heartbreak and sadness
He hits you like a freight train carrying all of your hopes and dreams
And parks it right on top of you

He walks like a King
And he should
He has the power to give and take
because let's face it, you are in his kingdom
you are inside his palace
You are in love
And he will keep just as safe as a person can be
As you walk along an edge so high
That the fall
May just be enough to kill you
But you still stroll on
Looking at this man they call love and you notice
He has these cuts, bruises, scars, an odd mannerism and a funny gimp in his step
Because love is not perfect to those who only see the surface

No, you must go deeper than his skin made of lonely nights and teenage heartbreak
To see his wonderful soul
Composed of every love song ever written,
Sewn together to the dreams of young love and the unsure future
As you sit quietly observing him
Feel the incredible warmth given off by a fire
That burns from within to keep love alive
To keep the light on that you harbor In your own soul
That way when love does decide to make himself known to you
you welcome the discovery with open arms

It may take him some time to show up
But never give up on him, because he won’t give up on you
As long as you believe that he is there
And don’t worry if you think you are ugly, or imperfect
Because love is blind

And he will blind us in return
Of all the imperfections he carries,
So that we aren’t as afraid to let him in
Because you can’t just see love
You have to feel him
In every breath you take
And in every single heartbeat

Don’t question if you will know if its him you are feeling
You will know its him when he shows up
He will suddenly take hold of your throat
Simply because he can
He wants you to know he can take your breath away that easily
Then he will let you go, run around behind you
And jump on your back, throwing all of his weight on you
He squeezes you tight and now
you carry him with you
Never forgetting about him, and
you hope he never let's go
