It’s not the first time
You lay there
Wondering, searching, willowing
Sun soaked exhaustion overcoming
Every ounce of will to move
From that very position

You let your arms weaken and limp to your sides
Eyelids shut
Sun beating down
Rays of red and yellow, through them

The visions broke through
The solid red colored pane held up to your eyelids
Showing you a picture
Of his arms wrapped around your waist
Fingertips tragressing upon
Your flimsy sundress patched with daisies

It showed you that heat stroked
Day in July, where your ice cream melted
Down the side of your fingertips
And you tilted your head in attempt to lick it off
Before it fell to the ground
Shortly after, he picked you up over his shoulder
And ran across the town square

But nevertheless
The summer soon ended
Alike that sudden concise drop
Of ice cream

It’s not the first time you lay there
Pondering
Searching for soothing thoughts
To forget about those
Fretful, careless days of sun soaked summer

But it is the first time
Your lungs have weakened
And gasped for one last
Concise breath
Of that shallow air
That escaped from his lips

And your heart hurts
From search for
One last reminder
That his love was real

You still wear that daisy dress
But it’s not the first time
It’s caused your mind to wander
