Friday Nights
These nights are what you look forward to all week,
Four days of work for only sixty minutes on this night
The anxiety that builds up is almost unbearable
Awaiting upon this night to arrive
It's a cool night after a blazing hot day
The sun goes down, the large lights come on
The motivational speeches the head coach lecture
That gives you chills and pumps adrenaline into your bloodstream
Then listening to nothing but the clicking and
Snapping of shoulder pads and helmets
As you and your teammates, brothers,
Get prepared for war
As not only a team but a family,
We march to the field, battle grounds,
Listening to our cleats clinging against the concrete
Watching the smoke from the grills rise into the atmosphere
Hearing the band playing in the distance
And hearing the spectators, our supporters,
Cheer us on as we make our way to the field
We gather around the field goal post
And say the Lord's prayer
After the coin toss, we join together for our chant
Then the band plays and the crowd roars
As we emerge out the tunnel onto the field
The battle is about to begin
And we are going to fight for every second
Until we hear the echo of whistle being blown
But at the end of the night, win or lose,
It's all about the brotherhood between us
And the memories we will always have
The laughs and the intensity
After the game, family and friends are always
There to greet us with a smile
Knowing we gave it all we had
And enjoyed playing the greatest sport on earth
In the locker room, listening to clicking
And snapping of shoulder pads and helmets
After the hard fought battle
We went in healthy and came back a little banged up
We tell each other "good job"
And then tell each other "see you later"
As this night will come again
And we will fight together
Under the bright lights
On the week's best night,
Friday night
