A girl with dreams, slowly blinded by life’s journey
Caught up in today’s news, she loses sight of what she came here for.
Every day she strives, and yearns for the day that she will make it.
The world brings her down when she gets closer to the top
She promised herself that she would never stop
She will take what is rightfully hers.
If it kills her, she will stop everything in her path
Her daddy once told her to fear no man,
Now she is ready to take on the world with one hand.
We feed into these thoughts of what’s wrong and what’s right
But we must not let that taint the picture of our life
One brain, one thought, one dream.
That’s all we truly have to ourselves.

The author's comments:
when I created this piece, I was at a point in my life where, I couldn't really see my dreams anymore. I was letting the outside world defer my dreams, and goals. I also realized that the world can take everything from us but the one thing we will always have to ourselves are our dreams.
