Watch, the children play in the light
They frolic away their useless years
Youth drains to the inevitable terminus
When souls part and spirits break

Watch, as we toil and lose essence
Not willing to part with the past
Unable to live towards the future
Can’t be mended in the purgatorial void

Watch, the night has come
Most sleep, while some children lament
Hiding their woes from their loves
And some hiding their lovers from their woes

Watch, as Despair fills to the brim
With confused, hopeless children, now grown
To see what waste they created with their lives
Thinking themselves shattered without each other

Watch, they think they know suffering
Slowly, they gather in line, single file
Crushed daily, by Despair, but only outside
While us true soldiers burn from within

Watch, scions
Learn from your origin’s mistakes
Rebuild this wretched macrocosm
And do not let them age

I wrote this on my first day of high school after a rough summer. Clearly I did not have a high opinion of humanity at the time.
