Just a Bucket List

I have a bucket list,
Something thrilling to do,
So I don’t just exist.
Let’s complete it, me and you.

I have a list of things to do before I die,
One of them might be,
To dive through the sky,
And to feel free.

Before this life ends,
I want to be famous for something I did,
To make all kinds of new friends,
and have much money to bid.

Before this day ceases,
I want to finish a puzzle,
Maybe one with a thousand pieces,
Wouldn’t that dazzle?

I have a bucket list,
Something every girl wishes for,
The hope of being kissed,
Maybe it’ll be you, the boy next door.

I have a list of things to do before I die,
It’s kind of illegal,
But for once I’d like to defy
All the rules, and be proud and regal.

Before this life ends,
I want to attend a masquerade,
Some place a person pretends,
And dresses dance in their satin and brocade.

Before this day ceases,
I want to sleep under the stars,
Taste the steady night’s breezes,
And remember what is ours.

I have a bucket list,
It’s a bit daring, I know,
But I’d like a tattoo on my wrist,
Saying: I got through my greatest low.

I have a list of things to do before I die,
Maybe I could eat a thousand cans of pop?
Which is more than most can supply,
But it’s something none but I can top.

Before this life ends,
I would just like to fall in love,
With someone who comprehends,
Who will satisfy everything I need of.

Before this day ceases,
I want to be on life’s stage, with all the up and downs,
Where at the end everyone just freezes,
And then all the applause sounds.

I have a bucket list,
It’s not just something to do,
Do you get my gist?
It’s more than me and you.

Now hear this before I leave:
We might die any day, that’s true,
Our lives are just something we grieve,
But that’s why we have a bucket list to do.

Because, you see, we believe that
If we don’t have goals and dreams,
And no tricks under our hat,
Our lives will have no themes.

A list of things to do before you die:
Remind us we are so blessed,
To have our little hope for eternity,
In all the time we have left.

I have been thinking about bucket lists quite a bit recently, so this poem was inspired by the overwhelming thoughts I just had to get out.
