&ldquo; Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.&rdquo;<br /> -Edgar Allen Poe

The unforgiving insomnia that pervades me each night
Is the cause of the purple pools of skin
Under my fluttering, fatigued eyes
I stare at the dim crack in the door
Until my pupils narrow into
What seems the blackest kind of abyss
I peel back the gossamer curtain and the
Silent, sinister moon illuminates my
Fleeten, freckled skin
One single, bleak star hangs in the sky
With a delightfully lonely disposition
For innumerous eons I have been awake with
My ambisinistrous thoughts clambering
Through my skull
It is not fear that torments my attempts
But my mindless day dreams that
Refuse to convert into dreams of the night
And it is not desiderium which invokes me into constant consciousness.
I am determined to empty my mind
And drink warm milk that soothes only
Briefly and never takes full effect
I beg the sweetness of the usurping night
To lull me with lustrous lullabies
So that I may shut my eyes and
Escape from the unfeeling, dismal darkness of my room.
Into a sweet, sweet serendipitous sleep

The author's comments:
I have trouble falling asleep, spending hours lying in the dark. It inspired me to write this poem, which I scribbled on to a small piece of paper one night. I wrote it simply to express my frustration and helplessness in the situation.
P.S. Warm milk is supposed to help you sleep (it is mentioned in the poem).
